VISION

of

COBY FOUNDATION

CREATING OPPORTUNITIES

FOR

BELIZEAN YOUTHS

Message from Evondale Coburn

I would like to introduce you to Creating Opportunities for Belizean Youths Foundation by first telling

you some things about my own  background that you may not know. I was born and raised in Belize

City in a large close family. I lived on Plues Street between South and Berkely Streets, in the same house

where I was born for 21 years. I migrated to New York in September of 1974 to join the

rest of my family. While I was always good at asserting myself in basketball and other disciplines,

I was a little bit shy and unsure of myself in many ways. In fact without basketball I might not have

had the background or self confidence to pursue another kind of profession. This is why I strongly

encourage all young people to participate in some type of athletic activity or competition. Over the

years I have developed a very strong personal code for Professional Success which I’ve conveyed to

my family, friends and young people when they ask me about how to get ahead. I do not talk much

about basketball. I talk more about the need for hard work, good character, positive attitude,

preparation, communication and teamwork. I like talking to and interact with young people and I want

them to be better prepared than I was. The Foundation will be dedicated to helping disadvantage

young Belizeans to embrace their future. The Program will provide determined young people to discover

for themselves the joys, demands, dynamics, confidence, and sense of purpose they need to succeed and

make a positive impact on theirs and someone else life. I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination.

I am retired from the Unites States Army and the Department of Homeland Security, so you see that I value hard

work. It is my duty as a born Belizean to try and give back to the Community .Without the help of family, friends,

and positive role models that I had growing up on Plues Street, I would not be the person I am today.

MISSION OF COBY FOUNDATION:

COBY Foundation is a non profit organization dedicated to teaching, coaching and mentoring young Belizeans

to gain the hope needed to achieve their full potential.

CONCEPT OF COBY FOUNDATION / VISION:

To help young Belizeans from economically disadvantage backgrounds discover and experience the discipline

needed by reinforcing education, confidence and a sense of purpose to be successful in their personal lives and in their

community. To achieve this goal the foundation will need generous support from the business community, friends,

volunteers and all citizens who are willing to give their time and donations to develop productive young men and women.

The foundation’s program will consist of fundraising drive, scholarships, sporting events and clinics in several

disciplines, lectures, motivational speakers, and exposure to working environments and community service organizations.

The immersion in these programs will provide immediate and invaluable benefits to young Belizeans and the community.

It will also increase their direct contact with positive role models. This will help to build the kinds of interpersonal

and communication skills that will be the backbone of these young Belizeans future for success.

MY FOVORITE QUOTES:

1. Unless a people are educated and enlightened it is idle to expect the continuance of civil liberty or the

capacity for self government.

2. A teacher affects eternity. He/She can never tell where his influence stops.

3. No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.

4. The question is not what my purpose in life is but live life for a purpose.

5. As long as you do your best you cannot be a failure.

6. This is my own (original): No one cares how much you got until they got how much you care.

To continue to grow and make an impact, of course we need support. If you are interested in making contributions

to this foundation send it to:
